One Week of Abstinence

22 May, 2006 (06:06) | News

…from computers, and the Internet, begins as soon as I finish this blog post.

In less than an hour The Chacabuco Project embarks on phase II: production. In an hour we will stop by Santiago’s place, give him the plane tickets, and then hop on the overnight bus to Antofagasta at 9pm ET.

But even though we won’t be online for the next week, you can still make donations!

Just today we received another donation from a local Chilean journalist. Thank you!

And for those who are watching, the big red donation thermometer will be updated upon our return on May 29, 2006. We just don’t have time right now. :-)
Today’s been crazy. Technically, production already began
midday as the crew of two joined up, ate lunch, tested sound equipment, poured over maps of the Atacama and hammered out the last minute plans of how to pick up Rolando and Santiago at the airport in Antofagasta.

We’re gonna pick them up.

We got a cheap rental car in Antofagasta which will make the journey as easy as possible for these two former Chacabuco prisoners - Rolando and Santiago are currently in their early 70’s. Our goal will be to provide a hospitable filming environment for these two men. We will feed them well, and attempt to be as mindful as possible of their comfort.

This will undoubtedly be an extremely emotional experience for them, and so in addition to extensive interviews, we will also provide them plenty of time on their own to take in Chacabuco.

Thank you once again to everyone who has donated and express support for The Chacabuco Project! Your continued donations will help make post-production a reality!

…and, we’re off!
